Why did Trump fire Comey?

Alright leakers, spill the beans. You've been good at your job so far ...

The official story doesn't pass the laugh test. Trump has something to hide. Out with it!

What I've heard is it's due to Rosenstein who took over from Sessions on the Russian probe when Sessions had to recuse himself for talking to Russians, when he was a senator, during the campaign. In reading Rosenstein's letter, it seems he didn't like how Comey acted as FBI director in taking power into his own hands, basically grandstanding (and he'd done it earlier in positions he'd held). He kind of saw himself as a white knight which sounds noble but can be threatening also.

As for the Democratic complaint that the timing is suspect, Congress delayed filling the deputy attorney general position until late April. Rosenstein probably had been studying this from the time he was nominated. He was supposedly respected by Republicans and Democrats. Probably not so much Democrats now ;)

The other fear-mongering thing I've heard is the firing was to stop the FBI probe. This would indicate such people believe that is all being done by the Director. From what I can tell, it will not end FBI investigations into nefarious dealings by Trump or his people- nor that of Congress who is also investigating. It won't end leaks which I'm sure there'll be plenty.

One thing that surprised me, besides the suddenness, was that there were those in DC scared of Comey and the power he wielded. That means they feared he'd use it in ways that went beyond the law-- as he did when he revealed all Hillary had done but then said can't indict her despite that not being his job to determine. While Republicans might've liked that when it was her, they'd not be thrilled by a Director who did it when it was their side...

Another kind of humorous aspect is how the Dems claim this was to stop him from testifying again. Seriously, like they couldn't ask Sally Yates questions or Comey now, who might just be eager to not only justify himself but nail Trump. Then one dem suggested they let Comey run the senate investigation.

Strange times we live in is all I can say ;)

Come on, Rain. I have no brief for Comey. But when the reason given for his firing doesn't pass the smell test (might have last July, but now?) and is accompanied by a letter from the president whining that Comey said he didn't do "it" (whatever it is) -- something is rotten. When something is rotten, ask "who benefits"? Looks like the Orange Tweeter to me. And that is abuse of power.

What you believe on this is totally dependent on what you believed before it happened about Trump. I don't see how it impacts the investigation. Maybe hanging it out there so long has been Comey's job security. All I hear from Dem leaders is he should have been fired but the timing is suspect. Comey can still testify and the FBI will reveal what they have found; and if it indicts Trump, good but it should not keep holding it out there like a bone for Dems to gnaw on. One way or the other the facts are probably already there. It's not helping our country to allow innuendoes to grow-- makes for great fake news though as i see a lot of that on FB. If they have something on Trump, it's time to get it out there and let the country go on.

(I normally don't comment when someone uses a derogatory name for Trump but made an exception here since I already had written something. --If you don't want my comments, it's a good way to avoid them lol. I truly dislike nasty names for people -- Drudge recently headlined Obama as Bones, and I think that defeats real debate. I get it that recently nasty is supposedly the way to go. I am too old and too trained in being polite to be comfortable with that-- either way).

And now this. Reading the news the day it comes out is not a good idea, I am thinking ;) and the UK Mail had another story indicating Comey had told others he thought Trump was crazy. Their relationship was badly deteriorating. Maybe two huge egos and neither that stable (based on what Comey did to Clinton). Definitely hope they get someone good to head the FBI and straighten out what appears to have been going badly long before Comey...

Rosenstein threatened to resign of story not corrected.
